Introduction:In an attempt to gain a pan-India foothold, Indian telecomservice provider, TTSLServices Limited (TTSL) has planned to launch in a phased manner its services across 1,000 new towns in India byMarch 2005. The company having acquired licences to operate in 11 new circles in the country in January 2004, has decided to start its services in the new circles by September 2004. Thiswill give TTSLa presence in a total of 19 circles taking it on a parwith its competitors.

TTSL is part of the INR 54,000 crore (US$ 11.2 billion) Tata Group which is one of the biggest business conglomerates in India. TTSL spearheads the Group's presence in the telecomsector and was incorporated in 1996. In spite of being an early entrant in the Indian telecomfield, TTSLhas never been aggressive in attracting customers to its services. Anil Prakash, industry analyst and secretary general, Telecom Users Group (TUG) of India, says, "TTSL never really tried to offer more to its customers vis-à-vis the other telecom players".
